Earlier this week, we reported iFixit has done a teardown of Valve’s Steam Deck gaming console and what all electronic components iFixit and its community have identified.
Clearly, this list of components available on iFixit provides traction to all semiconductor companies that have their components in this console. At the same time, identified components provide an insight to all competitor semiconductor companies that are trying to get a piece of pie possibly on the next generation controller from Valve. There is something to learn for other gaming controller companies as well such as Nintendo or Microsoft as there are things that Valve did better than them.
But more than anything else, it is about one of the key takeaways – reparability of Steam Deck. Teardown concludes Steam Deck scores well on repairability. Reparability makes things interesting for iFixit, Valve as well as gaming enthusiasts. But why do we say so? Let’s look into it. For iFixit, it is a new business opportunity. They already announced they will provide repair kits for Steam Deck. When it comes to Valve, it is getting its fair share of publicity and it provides confidence to Valve’s potential customers that company is trying to make these controllers easy to maintain and hence long-term affordability. Now talking about gaming enthusiasts, well, there are a lot of you who like to repair on their own and repairability is something they love. Is not it?
